‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Boldly Reimagines Marvel’s Icons Without Catering To The Origin Story

Marvel Studios has done it again! After the blockbuster release of its most anticipated film of the year, ‘Deadpool and Wolverine‘, the studio is offering fans with a fresh take on their beloved first family with ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘.

Forget about the cosmic rays and the usual power-gaining story. This new film skips the origin story entirely and plunges right into action with our heroes already embracing their super identities. It’s not your typical reboot, and that’s what makes it exciting.

The buzz about ‘Fantastic Four‘ started at Marvel’s Comic-Con 2024 panel, where the cast including Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach made their first public appearance. Alongside director Matt Shakman, they teased a new narrative direction for the ‘Fantastic Four‘ project.

In an exclusive interview, Shakman told EW, “One of the things we decided early on was not to do an origin story,” explaining that they wanted to “start this thing off on a completely new foot.

Drawing inspiration from the space race era of the 1960s, Matt Shakman further described how the film captures the spirit of exploration. “The comic was created in the early ’60s, really at the same time that the space race was starting,” he explained. “It is infused with that idea of looking to the stars and dreaming of a future where we would be space travelers.

Moss-Bachrach also echoed this sentiment, saying, “I haven’t seen those [previous] movies. When I got hired to do this, it didn’t feel like that would be productive to watch those movies.

In addition to the main characters, the movie also stars Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer and Ralph Ineson as Galactus. Shakman and the actors are clearly pleased about the film’s distinctive direction. It promises a fresh story that will attract both old and new viewers.

During Marvel’s Hall H event, fans were treated to pre-production video of the ‘Fantastic Four’ in astronaut prep areas, getting ready for their interstellar adventures. There were also footage from Reed Richards’ science show for youngsters, which added a lovely element to the character’s presentation.

Fans are looking forward to this next chapter in the MCU. The ‘Fantastic Four’ are about to go on new adventures, as the film promises to accompany them on the journey. As Shakman put it, they’re ready to “take all of that great stuff from Apollo 11 and just imagine” the ‘Fantastic Four’ embarking on their own journey to the stars.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ is set for a release in November 2024.
