The upcoming Marvel animated series ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man‘ is set to introduce fans to a new take on the iconic web-slinger when it releases later this year. The show will follow Peter Parker in the very early days of his career as Spider-Man and promises to deliver some surprises along the way.
Writer and executive producer Jeff Trammell recently discussed the upcoming series and teased that not everything will play out as audiences may expect. Here’s what he said.

‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman’ Will Show A Mentor Relationship Different From Other Adaptations
‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man‘ is deviating from typical Spider-Man origins that have been explored extensively in other adaptations. This fresh take opens the door for creative liberties and unexpected twists on the well-known characters and storylines.
In the comics and movies, Peter Parker has looked up to mentors like Uncle Ben and Tony Stark in his beginnings as the webbed crawler. However, executive producer Jeff Trammell revealed the show will forge a new mentorship with Norman Osborn. In ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man‘, Peter Parker will have the opportunity to fully stand on his own for the first time in an adaptation.
The series promises an original story focused solely on Peter’s journey as he comes into his own as the web-slinging superhero, without the narrative relying on or being tied to other established heroes within the Marvel universe.
Introducing Norman Osborn as a mentor is an intriguing role reversal that promises to put an original spin on the Green Goblin’s future transformation. It will be exciting to see their dynamic play out and where it ultimately leads both characters.

The New Spider-Man Outing Is Full Of Surprises
While ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man‘ will include fan favorite characters like Harry Osborn and Gwen Stacy, Jeff Trammell noted they may not be portrayed exactly as audiences expect.
“Maybe there are certain things that you’re kind of like, ‘Oh yeah, I know that part.’ No, there’s a surprise in there” he teased cryptically.
Shaking up traditionally understood characterizations and relationships could make for unexpected storytelling twists and turns. It remains to be seen exactly how the show may divert expectations, but Trammell’s promise of surprises regarding familiar faces has got fans’ interest in how their portrayals may differ from the classic comic book iterations.
