Chris Evans immortalized Captain America on screen. His superhero character was introduced by Marvel in ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ in 2011. Evans continued to appear in MCU movies every year till his character’s retirement in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in 2019. Marvel’s success can’t be denied, but it has recently faced back-to-back failures.
A debate over superhero fatigue emerged with a string of flops for both Marvel and DC ventures, which James Gunn also addressed. Evans believes Marvel deserves more credit as superhero films aren’t easy to make. While speaking about this at an event, he also talked about his favorite Marvel venture and his possible return as Captain America.

Chris Evans Thinks Marvel Deserves More Credit
In the last couple of years, the losses outweigh the wins in the superhero genre. MCU projects such as ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’, ‘Eternals’, ‘The Marvels’, ‘Secret Invasion’ and ‘Madame Web’ performed miserably, leading many to wonder about the future of Marvel. While many plans are in place for Phase 6 and beyond, things are still murky.
Chris Evans recently spoke at Emerald City Con 2024 about his history of a decade with the Marvel Cinematic Universe for vouched his support for comic book movies, stating that Marvel has made great movies.
He said, “Comic book movies in general, for whatever reason, don’t always get the credit I think they deserve. They are these big, giant movies. There’s a lot of cooks in the kitchen. But the empirical evidence is in: They are not easy to make. If it was easier, there would be a lot more good ones. I’m not throwing shade! I’ve been a part of a few that missed. It happens. Making a movie is tough. More cooks in the kitchen doesn’t make it easier.”
The actor continued, “I don’t want to highlight specific films in the Marvel catalogue but some of them are phenomenal. Like independently, objectively great movies, and I think they deserve a little more credit.”

Evans’ Favorite Marvel Movie And His Future As Captain America
For Chris Evans, Marvel will always hold a special place in his heart. He fondly spoke about filming his favorite MCU movie, ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ which was released in 2014 and marked his second solo venture as the superhero.
Revisiting his experience with the film, Evans said, “It’s my personal favorite Marvel movie that I was a part of. It’s not just for the movie itself but the experience. The first film, I was so nervous. You know what you’re stepping into and as a result you’re playing defense and you’re playing not to lose. When ‘Winter Solider’ came around, we were playing to win. And it’s the first movie with the Russo Brothers. We were taking more risks, and the character felt more fleshed out. It was one of the more satisfying experiences I’ve had in my Marvel run.”
Evans said goodbye to Captain America and the MCU after 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame’ by passing on his shield to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson/Falcon, who came to his own as the glorious superhero in the Disney+ series ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’.
As fans are waiting for Evans to return as Captain America once again, the actor “doesn’t quite feel right” to do so yet. At the C2E2 fan convention in 2023, he said, “It’s tough, because look, I love that role deeply. He means so much to me, and I really do. I think there’s more Steve Rogers stories to tell, sure. But at the same time, I’m very, very precious with it … it’s like this little shiny thing that I have that I love so much, and I just don’t want to mess up in any way. I was a part of something that was so special for the special period of time and, in a way, it really landed so well.”
Evans concluded, “As much as I’m connected to that role and love telling those stories and working with those people, it doesn’t quite feel right right now.” So, there certainly are more stories for Steve Rogers, but when Chris Evans might feel okay to hold up that mantle again, only time will tell.
