The Fantastic Four‘, one of Marvel’s most iconic superhero teams, recently revealed that they went to remarkable lengths to reach their standards for the perfect design of their rocky member, The Thing.

During Marvel Studios’ Panel in San Diego on July 27, filmmaker Matt Shakman revealed how their team went into intense fieldwork to figure out the right composition for the Thing’s design. “We want to be true to comics but we also want to be true to life. We talked to scientists, we talked to animal experts, we talked to everybody. We went out into the desert to find the best rock to make the Thing right,” he was quoted as saying by Entertainment Weekly.

Shakman also unveiled how the movie is predominantly going to have a 60s aesthetic. “We’re not just doing the ’60s, we’re doing retro-future ’60s,” he said. “It’s part what you know from the ’60s, but part what you’ve never seen before.”

Marvel’s widely known H Hall Panel at Comic-Con 2024 in San Diego brought together many stars and talented contributors to various Marvel films including the ‘The Fantastic Four’ stars.

Making their first public appearance as a team, Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/the Thing) were joined by studio head Kevin Feige and director Matt Shakman.

Joseph Quinn mentioned his experience on set of the film with fellow actors, “We’re all collectively going to bring an essence that is a family rather than thinking about what we individually are going to bring,” he said.

Chiming in, Vanessa Kirby confirmed that they had a lovely experience working as a team, “I don’t think I’ve laughed so much in a rehearsal period before. We laughed so much. We want to do it justice. It’s amazing reading comics from the ’60s all the way up. When you read the comics it’s got so much joy in it so I hope we can bring that to the movie,” she said.
