The Council of Kangs was first introduced in the ‘Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ post-credit scenes. Although the movie repeatedly mentioned a council that exiled Kang the Conqueror into the Quantum Realm after he interfered in their plans with Multiverse. Finally, the fans witnessed the mysterious group in a coliseum-like structure filled with many Kang variants from across the multiverse and only three seem to be in charge of the rest.

The leader of the Council of Kangs is interpreted to be Immortus- a blue-skinned, long-bearded variant of Kang. He is considered the most powerful variant among all of the multiversal villains. Immortus was created because of Avengers’ epic fight with the Timekeepers. The result of this battle created a split in the timeline, which allowed one variant of Kang to escape to Limbo and master time. Immortus is then followed by Rama-Tut, who is an ancient Egyptian pharaoh variant of Kang. And the third one is most likely to be Scarlet Centurion, a heavily-armored and technologically advanced variant of Kang.

The Council of Kangs was first introduced in 1986’s ‘Avengers’ issue 267. It was featured in three issue story arc, which saw Kang formulating strategies to wipe off the Avengers and become the most powerful person in all the timelines. Born as Nathanial Richards, a very distant relative of Reed Richards initially became Iron Lad and joined the Young Avengers.

Kang from the future tells Richard how powerful he will become and hands him a suit of armor to speed up the process, but Nathanial is horrified by what he witnessed and decided to stop himself from being destructive.

Every variant of Nathanial Richards becomes Kang, but not everyone is as villainous and manipulative as Immortus. After accidentally finding his way to Limbo, Kang discovers Immortus’s skeleton.

Now with Immortus out of the way, he devises the plan of searching for the strongest variant of himself across the multiverse. In order to become more powerful he forms the council, but little did he know that he is falling into a well-laid trap.

The mission for forming the council was to select the handful of Kang’s variants who were strong, bloodthirsty, and willing to join Kang the Conqueror in his quest for destruction. Hence, the council began murdering every other Kang variant. Their goal was to eradicate the weakest version of themselves, making the council stronger and more powerful.

Just when Kang achieves his goal, he realizes he was betrayed by his lover Ravonna Renslayer who was secretly working with Immortus. The duo purposely manipulated Kang into forming the Council and killing his variants. Immortus reveals that he is the future Kang and that by killing all the variants, Kang has ensured he was destined to become Immortus. Hence this led to Immortus nearly breaking Kang’s mind, who escapes into the Limbo instead of fighting Immortus.
