MCU has bought one of its oldest villains back to the screens, and this time in the second episode of the series, ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law‘ on Disney+. Abomination also made a surprise appearance in the 25th MCU movie ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ in 2021. Now with his reappearance in the series, it would be better to know more about this villain and when he first appeared in the Marvel universe.
The role of Abomination in the series would be played by actor Tim Roth, who had portrayed the character at its first appearance in ‘The Incredible Hulk’ way back in 2008. In the trailer to She-Hulk, one can hear the reference to Abomination as “this man tried to kill my cousin, Bruce” by Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany). So who is this villain? Why did MCU make changes to him over the years?

Who Is Abomination?
Captain Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth) was a Russian-born British Royal Marine, who had been working with the United States Military. He was used by the government to fight Hulk in ‘The Incredible Hulk,’ with the help of the super soldier serum, a version of the one used on Steve Rogers.
The serum had some side effects as it was infused with some of Bruce Banner’s gamma-irradiated blood. Thus the creation of the monster creature Abomination. In the ‘Incredible Hulk’ movie, we see Hulk defeating the villain and the government taking custody of the Abomination. In the ‘She-Hulk’ series, it is seen that Blonsky is still in custody and is a changed person for good now.

Abomination’s Change In Appearance
Abomination has undergone its own metamorphosis over the years. The changes were evident in his appearance in ‘Shang- Chi’. There is a change in the size of the villain, he has gotten larger. “I think Abomination got a bit of an upgrade… or we might call it an evolution going through time. I do really love the design that we landed on for that character,” the director of ‘Shang-Chi,’ Destin Daniel Cretton, had remarked.
With his stature, his strength also seems to have improved. This can be justified by his need to increase his power over the decade. The character also seems to have grown a tougher exterior and spiky fins during his absence. It is all set that MCU would be wanted to have a more monstrous villain to set par with the much more powerful hero.
