A month back, Marvel released the teaser of Thor: Love And Thunder. In no time, it became a fan favorite garnering 209 million views in 24 hours. Yesterday, Marvel released the first official trailer of the film during the NBA Eastern Conference Finals on ESPN.
Fans took over the social media praising the return of Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Natalie Portman was seen as Thor’s ex-girlfriend Mighty Thor. The Guardians Of the Galaxy clan was also seen in the trailer. However, the one character that took the center stage was Christian Bale’s Gorr The God Butcher. Let’s take a look at who Gorr is and why he wants to kill the gods?
Origin Of “Gorr The God Butcher” And His Reason To Kill The Gods?
One of the most astounding introductions of an antagonist has to be hands down the menacing Gorr The God Butcher. In the latest trailer, we hear the voice of Christian Bale playing Gorr expressing his motives i.e., to slay all the gods, including the God of Thunder, Thor. In the trailer, we see Gorr beholding the All-Black the Necrosword aka Symbiote made of darkness which the Knull wields to go on a rampage of killing gods.
We see the amalgamation of Marvel and Greek mythology in the latest film. We witness Russell Crowe playing the God Zeus at the Olympus. The reason that Gorr the God Butcher goes on a good killing spree is due to his bruised past. Gorr takes birth on a perpetually famished planet. Faith was an integral part of the planet. and Gorr followed it thoroughly. However, he got convinced that there is no existence of God after the deaths of his parents, pregnant wife, and eventually his only son, Agar. He tries to rebel against the people but gets exiled.
On a fateful day during his exile, he witnesses the fight between Knull and another god. The gods, during the battle, crash onto the Gorr’s planet. One of them carried a sword composed of dark matter. Taking Advantage of Gods’ depleted state, Gorr gets hold of the All-Black the Necrosword. After wielding the sword, he travels a millennium to slay all the gods including Ares, the God of war; Enyo, the God of Ichor; Thanatos, the God of blood, and a few other gods.
In the trailer, he also utters, “the only ones who god cares about is themselves.” He also admits that Thor, the God of Thunder is the most difficult one to kill of all the lot.
