Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ will reportedly hit theaters on December 17, 2027, but it seems its production schedule is beginning to give rise to doubts about whether that date will be possible to keep.

The much-anticipated crossover was supposed to shoot earlier this year, but it’s been reported that there have been multiple changes of plans. Plus, with ‘Secret Wars’ being such a massive undertaking, a modest production delay could be a big deal for Marvel’s meticulously planned-out Phase 6 and Phase 7.

Production for ‘Secret Wars‘ was supposed to start in July, but was delayed to late August. The changes seem to have been influenced by the extended reshoots for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, as the production schedule for ‘Secret Wars’ was shifted again.

With the ‘Doomsday’ reshoots now reportedly wrapped, ‘Secret Wars’ was expected to finally get cameras rolling on September 7. But the new reports indicate that shooting may start in early October

That, on the surface, may not seem like a terrible delay. But ‘Secret Wars’ isn’t exactly a small Marvel project that can be rushed through production. The film is set to feature a massive cast of characters and will be one of the most crucial moments in the MCU’s history. This means that each month of production is worthwhile.

The next issue is whether Marvel can absorb the delay without shifting the December 17, 2027 date. There is still plenty of time before the movie reaches theaters, so an October start doesn’t automatically mean the release date will change. Marvel may be able to make adjustments to its production and post-production schedules to make up for it.

Fans have reason to be worried. ‘Secret Wars’ will likely be a beast in terms of visual effects, post-production, and cast. This is a serious film, and a rushed production would not be suitable. And if Marvel does finally slip the date, the repercussions might be far-reaching.

Around it are several other MCU projects, which could mean that if one major change is made, it could have a domino effect across the schedule. The December 2027 date is still in effect for now. However, as production continues to fall behind, Marvel might ultimately have to make a tough decision: save the schedule or give ‘Secret Wars’ the time it requires.
