MCU is currently one of the most profitable franchises in Hollywood. It doesn’t matter if it’s a movie or TV show, we cannot afford to miss an MCU project, specifically for the characters that they introduce. Two such unique characters were Wanda Maximoff and Agatha Harkness.
Wanda was introduced to the MCU in 2014 while Agatha’s debut happened with Wanda’s standalone series, ‘WandaVision’, which released in 2021. While the show received a positive response, their powers were also a subject of discussion on social media and the reason was the color of their powers. We know about their powers but maybe we have never tried to know behind the unique colors.
The Reasons Behind Wanda And Agatha’s Colors
Following the premiere of ‘WandaVision’ in 2021, director Matt Shakman decided to address the queries regarding the colors of Wanda and Agatha. Towards the seventh episode, it was revealed that Agatha is also a witch but the color of her magic was purple while Wanda’s color was red.
In an interview with ComicBook in 2021, Shakman was asked if the colors were anyhow linked to the Infinity Stones. Shakman started by saying that Wanda’s powers evolved as the series continued and that the color differentiation was important to explain what was happening. He said that Agatha’s magic was purple because she takes the magic of other witches. He added:
“So for us, in terms of color coding for that scene, that was, you know, one of the biggest reasons why it’s like that. And of course Wanda’s magic has been established, but we’re evolving it and changing it as we go.”
The color differentiation makes the scenes visually interesting and audiences can think about the motivation behind the different colors of the characters. According to Shakman, Wanda’s color was a result of the effect of the Infinity Stones.

Agatha Harkness’ Standalone Show
MCU has introduced many characters ever since the franchise debuted in 2008. Although the superheroes and supervillains have been getting recognition, there are some minor characters that were loved by the audience but did not get enough screen space.
The producers eventually decided to explore more about those minor characters and MCU started the journey through Disney+ in 2021 with ‘WandaVision.’ Possibly no one expected that Agatha Harkness would turn out to be the villain. However, the character still received praise for its powerful screen presence.
MCU has confirmed another show based on Agatha Harkness, titled ‘Agatha: Coven of Chaos.’ The show entered development in 2021 and it is confirmed to premiere sometime in 2023 or 2024. Kathryn Hahn will reprise her role as Agatha alongside Debra Jo Rupp as Sharon Davis.
