Marvel Studios is slowly working towards one of its biggest projects ever, introducing the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

However, director Jake Schreier says a lot of the speculation on social media about who’s playing what in the upcoming movie may be ahead of itself.

The buzz surrounding Marvel’s mutant future is growing, and so is the speculation regarding characters like Mystique, Rogue, Beast, and Jean Grey. However, Schreier has now issued a reminder that the project is still in development, and many of the reports floating around on the internet are not accurate.

Schreier said in a recent interview that discussions are still taking place about the film. However, the majority of the rumours of casting have not come from those involved in the creative process of the film. “I can tell you most of the stuff that gets posted online, I don’t know where it comes from, because it doesn’t come from our room, and it isn’t what we’re discussing. But there is a process,” he told Collider.

That’s not surprising at all. The X-Men reboot for the MCU is still in development. Screenwriters Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo are still working on the script. So, if the script is still in development mode, then significant casting has also not been done.

Rumors have swirled around the casting of a new superhero series for the MCU. However, for the time being, Marvel seems to be playing it safe. The studio seems to have an awareness of the seriousness of the situation. The X-Men have been one of Marvel’s most popular characters, and after 20 years of Fox’s mutant movies, there’s a lot of pressure to deliver.

Despite all the rumors, there’s plenty to be excited about. One of the most prominent theories at the moment is that Sadie Sink will appear in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. Her character still hasn’t been revealed. However, there is speculation that she will be the Jean Grey character, setting the stage for future mutant stories.

Marvel, meanwhile, is also marking the legacy of Fox’s X-Men with ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, which will also see some of the original cast from the series return. It’s like the end of an era and the start of a new one for long-time fans. The most impressive thing is the confidence from the creative team.

Those who have been involved in the reboot have all stressed their love for the characters and their commitment to offering something new, while also acknowledging the many years of X-Men lore. Marvel’s mutant future is still somewhat shrouded in mystery. But that’s what makes the journey so exciting.
