Amanda Seyfried is enjoying the massive success of ‘The Housemaid‘, but the actress isn’t taking every part of the achievement seriously. While the thriller storms toward the $375 million worldwide mark, she has been laughing about one particular credit attached to her name.
Instead of highlighting behind-the-scenes contributions, Seyfried has openly joked that her executive producer title exists mostly on paper. In fact, she didn’t even realize she had it until filming was already underway.
Amanda Seyfried Had No Idea She Was An Executive Producer On ‘The Housemaid’

While appearing on The Graham Norton Show, Seyfried laughed while admitting she holds an executive producer credit on the Paul Feig adaptation of Freida McFadden’s 2022 novel. The surprising part is that she didn’t even know about it at first. Seyfried admitted she only realised she had the title of executive producer “three weeks into shooting.”

Recalling the moment, she said, “Can I tell you something? I’m a producer on it,” she said, before explaining the moment she discovered it. About three weeks into filming, she checked a call sheet and saw “Executive producer” next to her name.
Her immediate reaction was that she hadn’t signed up for that. Her agent had negotiated the credit, but she clearly was not keeping track of every detail.
Why Seyfried Calls It A ‘Vanity Credit’

Instead of owning the title like a career power move, Seyfried instantly downplayed it. Seyfried openly described the title as a “vanity credit,” laughing at the idea that audiences might think she helped make the movie. She stressed she had zero involvement in producing and simply showed up to act and enjoy the experience.

She explained she didn’t want to diminish real producers who actually develop films. Comparing herself to Margot Robbie, she noted Robbie truly works intensely on projects from the earliest stages, while she just joined the shoot and later left.
“That’s the thing about vanity credits,” she said, adding she doesn’t want people to misunderstand the difference. After the film’s success, she joked she now feels like she’s getting rewarded anyway. It’s almost like being sent on vacation for a job she didn’t do.
