American screenwriter, Greta Gerwig, recently discussed the marathon of writing the ‘Barbie‘ script. She revealed how she and her spouse, Noah Baumbach, read the script out loud and bounced ideas off each other. ‘Barbie‘ was the biggest movie phenomenon of 2023 with over a billion-dollar box office collection.
While talking on 60 Minutes, Gerwig let out a hint about a Ken sequel in the future. Ryan Gosling played one of the Kens in the ‘Barbie‘ movie. Since then fans have been in awe of his performance. In the interview, Greta admitted that she has not ruled out the possibility of a Ken movie.
Greta Gerwig Responds To Ken Movie Query
The ‘Little Women’ director opened up on her process of writing the ‘Barbie‘ movie on 60 Minutes. Gerwig revealed how her husband Noah Baumbach, also a filmmaker, partnered with her to write the script for the Margot Robbie-starrer. When the interviewer asked Greta if we could expect a Ken movie in the future, laughing, Greta answered that she couldn’t comment on it yet. However, the director added, “I guess we’ll see.”
Greta revealed both she and Baumbach had several ideas for Ken while writing the script. The filmmakers had even decided on Ryan Gosling as the actor for Ken. They wrote his name beside the Ken dialogues. While ‘Barbie‘ itself was a whooping success, fans appreciated Gosling’s performance too. The actor was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

Greta Gerwig On Her Process Of Creating Impactful Cinema
In the interview, Greta opened up about her process of writing and directing ‘Barbie‘. She explained that she wrote a few pages and showed them to her husband. “Noah immediately understood what I was doing and was like, ‘You know, this is exciting and there’s a movie in here,” Gerwig said. She related that while directing, both she and Noah do not like to change anything from the script on set.
She explained that while directing ‘Lady Bird‘ and ‘Little Women‘, everything was scripted to the “you know” and “umm”. Greta tries to maintain such a process while directing where the script has been written and read several times before shooting.
