Michael Chaves Is To Direct ‘Conjuring 4’
The $2 billion empire built upon the chronicles of Ed Warren (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) has come to its culmination. While the name of this is still in a tug of war we have been unveiled with its director. According to Warner Bros’ announcement at Cinemacon, the film is to be called ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ however, according to THR, it is currently just known as ‘The Conjuring 4′. Well what’s in the name of a rose, the one tending to it has been confirmed to be Michael Chaves.
Chaves has been a part of the Conjuring Universe since its last movie ‘The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It’ which he directed as well. The 2023 spin-off ‘The Nun 2′ is also his artistic offspring.
The plot of the movie is currently being kept under a tight veil. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will most probably reprise their roles from the previous movies as replacing them this late in the journey might result in a big backlash. The movie has been in operation for a year now.
Chaves spoke about the production in an interview with SlashFilm and this is what he has to say, “I think that they’re still writing it. They’re still working on it. There’s definitely ‘Conjuring: Last Rites’ is coming…I couldn’t give away what I know about what’s being developed, but I know that they’re going to end with a bang. I know that there is a great finale being planned for ‘Last Rites’ and as to what or who’s in it … I don’t want to give away any spoilers.”

A Diminishing Conjuring Legacy?
While the first two movies of the franchise which were directed by James Wan have had phenomenal success both box office-wise and critically, the recent parts of the Conjuring Universe are having mixed reviews. The third installment, ‘The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It,’ marked a departure from Wan’s directorial prowess, with Michael Chaves taking the helm. While commercially successful, earning over $206 million worldwide, the film failed to capture the same level of critical acclaim as its predecessors. Critics and audiences alike pointed to a weak screenplay, resulting in what many consider to be one of the weakest entries in the franchise.
Even the secondary branches of the Conjuring Universe, ‘Annabelle’ and ‘The Nun’ have been performing underwhelmingly when compared to the first two parts of Conjuring. Few fans feel like James Wan was the originator of the franchise and should be directing the last part seeing his work to its end. While that doesn’t seem possible it might console fans that James Wan will indeed be present in the production team, perhaps saving this reprise.
