Berry recently spoke about her experience filming the 2002 James Bond movie ‘Die Another Day‘ during a video interview with Wired. The film marked Pierce Brosnan’s fourth and final appearance as the iconic British spy after a seven-year run that began with ‘GoldenEye‘ in 1995. Berry starred opposite him as Jinx, a character who quickly became a fan favorite.

Looking back on the experience, Berry had nothing but admiration for her co-star. “He will always be my Bond, always,” Berry said when asked about working with Brosnan. “I’m a Pierce Brosnan fan. He restored my faith in men in that movie. There couldn’t be a human who is more of a gentleman than Pierce Brosnan.”

The actress also admitted that joining the Bond franchise was not something she had actively pursued. However, she had long been a fan of the films and appreciated the opportunity once it came her way. “Bond wasn’t on my wish list, no, not to be in one, but I loved the movies, always,” Berry continued.

Having been in one, I feel like I’m a part of cinematic history. … Those movies are iconic. They will forever be a part of our history, and I’m really honored to have been a part of one, especially with Pierce.”

Jinx Became One Of The Franchise’s Most Popular Characters

Berry’s character Jinx made a strong impression on audiences when ‘Die Another Day‘ was released. Her popularity among Bond fans quickly sparked conversations about expanding the character’s story beyond the main franchise. The enthusiasm for Jinx eventually led producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson to begin developing a standalone movie centered on the character.

The project would have made Berry one of the first Bond-related stars to headline a spinoff film and could have opened a new chapter for the long-running franchise. At the time, Broccoli was also interested in modernizing the Bond universe and moving away from some of the outdated attitudes that had appeared in Ian Fleming’s novels and the franchise’s earlier films. A Jinx-led movie seemed like a major step in that direction.

Despite early plans and fan interest, the Jinx movie never entered production. According to a 2020 report by Variety, MGM ultimately decided against moving forward because of concerns over the film’s reported $80 million budget.

The decision reportedly frustrated Barbara Broccoli, who had been eager to expand the franchise in new ways. The cancellation brought an end to what many fans viewed as a promising opportunity for the Bond series.
