In the original eight part movie franchise, Wright played the role of Ginny Weasley, the youngest of Weasleys and Harry Potter’s love interest in the film. If you have noticed the differences between the ‘Harry Potter’ books and their on-screen adaptation, you must have noticed how Ginny Weasley’s character went through considerable changes while being adapted for the screen. It seems to be something that even Bonnie Wright has in her mind, as she talked about how the new series can adapt Ginny’s character is a much better way during an interview with Variety.

Talking about the storylines she hopes will find their way to the screen this time, she said, “So many things. More of the development of the relationship between Ginny and Harry. There’s nuanced moments of where they begin to fall in love.”

I think more of that arc of her character becoming this real loyal sidekick to Harry and how she really understands and knows his story and who he is and is the best partner for him,” she added.

So I just hope we see that evolution of that character — and so many characters. If only we could have had five-hour movies. There are so many characters that have moments I love from the books — Neville and Luna — so I’m hoping as a fan of the books that I get to see more,” the actress added.

When asked if she has any advice for the new actress who will take on Ginny’s role, Bonnie Wright said, “I don’t think I would have any advice, to be honest, because I think it’s so important for them to be in their world and their interpretation of it. And I feel that’s so important, from an actor’s perspective, director’s perspective, to really make it their own.”

So I’m really looking forward just to being this time on the other side and be the one watching every week on television, and be the audience. And I really hope that the interpretations feel different and alive and new and fresh,” the actress added, clarifying that she’s more than happy being on the backseat now.

In the book version, he character Ginny had much more element to her than it has been shown on screen. She was headstrong, feisty, funny, and challenging, and always found herself standing up for everyone around her.

In numerous scenes, her rebelliousness and feisty attitude is shown as she gets into small feuds with her brothers. Apart from this, she is also very smart, loyal and a good friend to Harry. Well, like Bonnie herself, we hope to see all these aspects reflect well in the upcoming series.

In the films however, the makers didn’t explore her role as much as they should have- something that Harry Potter fans have complained since a long time. In the movies she’s mostly quiet and says less and is always in the background. None of her best scenes from the books were incorporated in the films.

Here’s hoping that the HBO series will finally give justice to her character.
