Harry Potter‘ is easily one of the most popular and successful film franchises of all time. Based on the namesake book series by J. K. Rowling, the series consists of eight fantasy films, starting with ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ and ending with ‘Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.’

Most of the films in the franchise met with positive critical responses and strong box-office results. Two of them are on the list of highest-grossing films of all time. So how much money did the series make overall? Let’s find out the exact amount the series collected.

How Much Money Did The ‘Harry Potter’ Series Make?

Harry Potter‘ is one of the biggest film franchises of all time, having garnered both critical and commercial success. It has also spawned a spin-off prequel series starting the Wizarding World shared media franchise.

The first and last films are among the 50 highest-grossing films of all time. They are ranked as the 48th- and 15th-highest-grossing films, with both, grossing over $1 billion.

With over $7.7 billion worldwide collection, it is the fourth highest-grossing film series of all time. Eight films in the series have grossed over $7.7 billion globally.

Keeping aside the inflation, this is higher than the first 22 ‘James Bond films and the six films in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise. Alfonso Cuarón’s ‘Prisoner of Azkaban’ is the least-grossing film in the franchise.

‘Harry Potter’ Actor Robbie Coltrane Passed Away

Robbie Coltrane, the Scottish actor known for his role as Hagrid in the ‘Harry Potter’ series, passed away at the age of 72 on Friday. His agent Belinda Wright called him a “unique talent,” who was “an abidingly loyal client.”

In a statement, Wright wrote: “As well as being a wonderful actor, he was forensically intelligent and brilliantly witty, and after 40 years of being proud to be to called his agent, I shall miss him.”

Coltrane was born Anthony Robert McMillan on March 30, 1950, in Glasgow, Scotland. He took up stand-up comedy in Edinburgh clubs after his failed attempts as an artist.

He changed his last name in honor of the jazz legend John Coltrane as he switched to acting in London. Coltrane also appeared as Valentin Zukovsky in ‘GoldenEye’ and ‘The World Is Not Enough.’
