Why Hugh Grant Was Not A Part Of ‘Bridget Jones Baby’
Hugh Grant’s absence from ‘Bridget Jones’s Baby’ surprised many fans. It turns out, the reason wasn’t a personal clash or scheduling conflict. Hugh was actually approached to be in the movie, but it all boiled down to the script. Unlike the upcoming film, Hugh did not like the script.
The central idea of Bridget being pregnant with two potential fathers was interesting, but according to Hugh, the script itself didn’t quite click for him. More importantly, he wasn’t convinced his character, Daniel Cleaver, fit organically into the narrative.
Additionally, he did not want to alter the characteristics of Daniel for him to fit in the movie. So, Hugh ultimately decided to pass. It wasn’t a slam on the movie itself, but rather a desire to ensure the story and his character was portrayed in a way he felt was true to the franchise.
