In this day and age, the rom-com genre of cinema is dead! Maybe love is, too. Romantic comedies do not follow the retrograde tropes that were exploited throughout the first decade of the new millennium. But, looking at today’s state of the genre, one may yearn to revisit or re-watch these films for nothing, but the love for love, and the proximity of two people getting to know one another. Like Katherine Heigl no more appears in cinema and lights up the celluloid, rom-coms are now part of history. But, we are blessed to have a brilliant romantic comedy like ’27 Dresses’.Anne Fletcher, the famous American choreographer, set out to make her second directorial feature ’27 Dresses’.
It starred Katherine Heigl as Jane Nichols; Edward Buns as George; James Marsden as Kevin Doyle; Malin Åkerman as Tess Nichols. It is a story of a starry-eyed woman Jane, who works as an assistant with her boss and crush George. She is an enthusiastic woman, but her excitement lies in being a bridesmaid until she finds the one. Unfortunately, her sister Tess and George grow to like each other, and she shoulders the responsibility of the wedding. While doing so, she finds the right guy who seems the wrong one, but things fall into place. So, is the story based on a real-life story?

Jane From ’27 Dresses’ Is Based On The Writer’s Friend Kate
Katherine Heigl created some aww-worthy moments on celluloid in Fletcher’s ’27 Dresses’. It is a story about Jane, who attends 27 weddings taking up the role of a bridesmaid. There are all kinds of weddings and she has a closet full of bridesmaid dresses as a souvenir.
Katherine’s Jane and Marsden’s Kevin have the same trope where the stranger you meet out of blue, has a conflict, and then falls for him, and till the end, there are many conflicting situations. The two, nevertheless, gave two of the most iconic scenes in the history of romantic comedies.
All the credit goes to the brilliant writer Aline Brosh McKenna who has films like ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ and ‘Cruella’ under her belt. The story is not an adaptation like the former, but it is a story that happened to someone closer to her. Aline tweeted about the real-life inspiration for Jane’s character.
She wrote, “27 Dresses was inspired by my friend Kate who’d been a bridesmaid a million times.” We are not sure how parallel the stories ran. Did Kate preserve the dresses? Did she also have a crush on her boss? How is her relationship with her sister? We may not know this, but her story gave us the best rom-com from the 2000s decade.

Where Is The Real-Life Jane Now?
The reel-life Jane goes through a very turbulent time in the film after the humiliating article that Doyle’s boss posts. She ruins her sister’s marriage by telling the truth in the most inappropriate and nasty manner.
Despite the upheaval, she tries to reconcile with her boss, but Jane realizes that the attraction did not get translated to love. So, finally, she marries Kevin inviting all the brides for whom she played the role of the bridesmaid.
