Summers has been inundated with some special and breakthrough LGBTQIA+ romantic dramas for two years. After the ‘Heartstopper’ fever on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video introduced ‘Red, White & Royal Blue.’ An adaptation of Casey McQuinston’s 2019 novel, it is the story of two boys who turn lovers into foes.
‘Red, White & Royal Blue’ stars two charismatic actors as the lovers. Taylor Zakhar Perez plays Alex Claremont Diaz, the first son of the President of the US. Nicholas Galitzine plays Prince Henry, the favorite royal of the UK. Fate takes them on a ride where they discover each other and fall in love, only to be tested. Matthew Lopez has beautifully adapted the film, which has many pivotal moments. One of them is when Alex comes out to his mother as bisexual, which is the favorite moment of the director.

Matthew López Hopes Admits That The Coming Out Scene In ‘Red, White & Blue’ Is His Favorite Scene In The Novel
‘Red, White & Royal Blue’ has struck a beautiful chord among the audience. It has become a hot topic in pop culture due to the stellar performances and chemistry between Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine. Before the release of the show on Amazon Prime Video, director Matthew López talked to the Hindustan Times about his favorite scene in the show.
While talking to the outlet, Matthew López revealed that the coming-out scene of Taylor Zakhar Perez is his favorite scene. He admitted that the scene is Uma Thurman‘s, who plays the ex’s mother in the film, best scene in the film. Lopez said, “It was one of my favorite scenes of the novel. I am 46, and I did not get that scene when I came out at 21. And I say that with love and gratitude to my parents who have been on a journey since that day alongside me.”
He continued, “The world has changed since I came out to my parents, and I always thought that in the novel there is something really that is just of perfectly matter of fact about the way he (Alex) does it, which doesn’t make it in any way less special or even less scary for him.”

The Director Praised Taylor And Uma For Portraying The Scene So Well
In the interview, Matthew López praised Taylor Perez and Uma Thurman’s performances and expressed hope that the scene resonates more with the parents of queer kids. He added, “Honestly I think in some ways that scene might be more for the parents watching the movie than for queer kids.”
López said, “Of course I hope that queer kids respond to the scene but for me that scene without question Uma’s greatest scene in the film and I think she brought to it her own experiences as a mother of three children, as an actor with so many different friends who probably came out to her over the years.”
Matthew continued, “She’s remarkable in that scene and I can watch Taylor relax into it because of the way she decided to perform it. Again, I promise you I did a lot of work in this movie but when you have a cast like this in your movie so much of your work is done for you. That scene works because of Uma and Taylor. They knew how to play it, they did it beautifully.”
