DC’s Green Lantern was one of the rare cases of the Cinematic Universe having a fail at the box office as the Ryan Reynolds starrer tanked both with reviews and collection, taking away hopes for a potential sequel. Among other actors who were also considered for the role, Jon Hamm sat down to talk about why he was completely against the role, despite having the potential for a hopefully blockbuster success.
Here’s everything the actor revealed on his refusal to be in the film and what plans he has to work with Marvel and DC in the future.

Here’s Why Jon Hamm Declined Green Lantern Offer
According to a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jon Hamm, who was reportedly among the actors considered for Hal Jordan prior to Reynolds’ hiring, confitmed that he was indeed given the role. He stated that he “definitely” didn’t want to take on the part before revealing how he is aggressively pitching himself for other characters in the superhero movie genre.
“That was one I definitely didn’t want to do,” Hamm said about Green Lantern. “But I’ve pitched myself for a couple parts of the Marvel universe, I don’t want to say what exactly, but it was a part of a comic book that I really liked. I was like, ‘Are you going to do this story?’ And they were like, Yeah, we’re actually thinking of that.’ I go,’Good. I should be the guy.’ So maybe it’ll work out.”

Ryan Reynolds As Green Lantern
Rotten Tomatoes gave Green Lantern a dismal 26% rating and it was mirrored by fans’ reaction to the film. Although the film’s poor CGI attracted the most of the criticism, other criticism focused on the film’s bad writing, casting, uninspired plot, and insufficient character development.
Reynolds claims that despite the team’s best efforts, Green Lantern was a film that didn’t know where it stood. The narrative was not simplified as the movie lacked a clear direction. There was allegedly tension behind the scenes between Reynolds and director Martin Campbell, who was coerced by the studio to cast Reynolds in the lead part even though he did not want to.
