History has been etched at the Golden Globes 2024 as Lily Gladstone won the Golden Globe in the ‘Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama’ category. She is the first Indigenous person to win the award, as the actress belongs to the Blackfeet and Nez heritages.
Lily Gladstone, during her acceptance speech, spoke her native language and said, “I just spoke a bit of Blackfeet language—the beautiful community, nation that raised me, that encouraged me to keep going, doing this.”
‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ actress took a dig at Hollywood for poor representation of native linguistics in the films. She continued, “I’m so grateful that I can speak even a little bit of my language, which I’m not fluent in, up here. Because this business… native actors used to speak their lines in English and then the sound mixers would run them to accomplish native languages on camera.”

It was not an easy task for Lily Gladstone to learn Osage for her role in ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’. However, the actress took it upon herself to learn and deliver a devastatingly good performance as Mollie Kyle in the film.
Lily Gladstone, backstage at the Golden Globes, talked about the significance of speaking in the Blackfeet language. She said, “It’s often how I introduce myself to a new group of people, especially when it’s significant.
Lily added, “One of the first things we’re taught is you say your name, you say where you’re from and you say hello to everyone, all of my friends. It was one of the more natural things I could do in the moment.”
