‘Lady Bird’ Star Saoirse Ronan Says She Was Considered For An Important Role In ‘Barbie’?

‘Barbie’ became a worldwide phenomenon due to the portrayal of the conventional roles of males and females in the world. Greta Gerwig’s directorial debut revived the box office by delivering a mega-blockbuster film that went on to earn $1 billion in 17 days. The film had Barbie and Ken as the central characters to tell the story of how the utopian Barbie world gets affected when Ken gets into the real world.

‘Barbie’ had a cast of stellar actors, from Margot Robbie to Ncuti Gatwa to Will Ferrell, in this feminist drama ensemble. However, Greta had many other A-list actors like Timothée Chalamet, Dan Levy, and Saoirse Ronan play pivotal characters in the film. During a recent interview for her Sundance film ‘The Outrun’, Saoirse revealed that she was to play Weird Barbie in the film.

Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ will remain a landmark film in the history of cinema. A female-led film that went on to do $1 billion in business is also critically acclaimed. There were many memorable characters in the film, like Allan, a confused soul who is stranded between Barbies and Kens. However, Kate McKinnon’s portrayal of Weird Barbie was unanimously praised.

However, along with Kate McKinnon, Greta Gerwig’s former ‘Lady Bird’ co-star, Saoirse Ronan, was to play Weird Barbie. Currently, Saoirse is doing press tours for her new film, ‘The Outrun’. During an interview with Variety, she revealed that she had a scene in the film as Weird Barbie that did not make it to the final cut.

Saoirse Ronan was asked about Timothée Chalamet and her cameo in the film. Saoirse said, “I don’t know what he was going to be, but I was definitely going to be a Weird Barbie. I don’t know how to take that. I would have been with Kate McKinnon, so that would have been nice. I had a scene but didn’t ever get to do it, and it wasn’t in the movie.”

It seems like Greta Gerwig missed some amazing talents that could have been fun to watch in ‘Barbie’. On the list of actors who did not make it to the final cast of the film, Dan Levy is one of the names. While promoting his debut Netflix film ‘Good Grief’, the ‘Schitt’s Creek’ actor revealed that he was going to play Allan in ‘Barbie’.

During an interview with USA Today, Dan Levy said, “I was up for Allan. Love Michael Cera, so very happy for him. It was just also a wonderful audition process, too, because I didn’t know anything about the movie and I got (a little bit of) the script and had to figure out what exactly was going on.”

The actor talked about having sleepless nights to pass on the role. He added, “Does it haunt me when I sleep at night? Sometimes. It’s not like it isn’t like one of the biggest movies of all time. That was a tough, that was a tough day.”
