‘Pride And Prejudice’ was the ultimate romantic movie of 2005. Viewers loved the chemistry between Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennet and Matthew Macfadyen as Mr Darcy. While many fans were enamored by Macfadyen’s Mr. Darcy, the actor himself, does not think so.
In a recent interview with CBS Mornings, the 49-year-old actor revealed that he thought he was miscast as Mr. Darcy in the movie. Although Macfadyen earned legions of fans for the role, he didn’t savor the on-set experience. He reveals why he didn’t enjoy the role.

Matthew Macfadyen Did Not Enjoy Playing Mr. Darcy
Joe Wright’s 2005 movie ‘Pride And Prejudice‘ remains a timeless romantic movie even now. Based on Jane Austen’s 1813 novel of the same name, the movie launched Matthew Macfadyen into stardom. However, the actor thinks he was a miscast for the movie.
In his recent appearance on CBS Mornings, the ‘Succession’ star said, “I didn’t really [enjoy it].” He said, “I feel bad saying that. There were moments I had a good time, but I wish I enjoyed it more. I wish I was less worried about it.” He then revealed that he felt that he didn’t fit the role. “I felt a bit miscast, like, ‘I’m not dishy enough,'” he confessed. “But it worked out.”

Matthew Macfadyen Is Grateful For The Role
Although Matthew Macfadyen feels he was miscast, there is no doubt that the role suited him well. ‘Pride And Prejudice’ launched him into stardom and was basically the start of his career. And even Macfadyen cannot deny that.
Macfadyen revealed that he wears being recognized as Darcy as something of a badge of honor. “Probably the most flattering thing that happens to me now is people say, ‘Were you Mr. Darcy?'” he added. “It’s a good 20 years later. So I think, ‘I can’t be aging that badly.’” Macfadyen’s Mr. Darcy’s improvised hand clench remains one of the most iconic scenes from the movie.
