“They Wanted to See My Nipples”: Minnie Driver Claims ‘Hard Rain’ Producers Didn’t Allow Her To Wear Wetsuit, “Punished” Her For Protesting

Actress Minnie Driver recently revealed how her producers once refused to let her wear a wetsuit and was asked to wear a revealing attire during the shooting for ‘Hard Rain‘. The actress recalled the incident stating that after she protested against their demands, she was punished for saying it’s wrong.

“It’s set during this massive storm” she said while talking about the scene during a recent interview. “There were huge rain machines. We shot crazy hours. It was tough. Everybody else could wear a wetsuit underneath their costume, and I was told by the producers that I couldn’t because they wanted to see my nipples, and that there was no point in having the wet t-shirt if you couldn’t have what was underneath it,” she added.

And it was very kind of plainly told, like, ‘You are an idiot if you don’t understand that this is what’s going on.’ And I remember saying, ‘This is wrong. I remember calling my agent. I then remember it being like, boy, people wouldn’t speak to me on the set,” the actress added.

Further claiming that she was punished for it, Driver said, “It was leaked to the press that I called and complained about conditions, but it was as if there was nothing to complain about and I was just complaining.”

Minnie Driver’s story, however, has been rejected by the costume designer for the film, Kathleen Detoro. As per Detoro, “the producers had me supply everyone including crew with wetsuits,” and everyone, including Driver, had access to wetsuit pieces, including “tops, bottoms, booties.” She added that “the actors decide if they want to wear it or not.”

Minnie Driver, meanwhile, emphasized that the incident affected her life a lot and prevented her from having a balanced approach to life. “So it’s this sort of ex — not even existential — this gaslighting, media gaslighting that’s supported by the environment that you are in. And then you have to stay in that environment. You know, we shot that movie for seven months.”https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0221914/

“So, eventually, you do turn on yourself,” Driver said. “You do go, ‘It was my fault for saying anything, you stupid big mouth. You should have shut up.’ And that goes in and then alters the way in which you kind of see yourself and your natural inclination to put your hand up and go, ‘This isn’t right,'” the actress added.
