Halloween is a celebration of remembering the dead and all the departed souls. People enjoy the festival differently as kids do trick-or-treat. People visit haunted sites, tell each other scary stories or attend costume parties. However, there’s one thing that’s my personal favorite.

10) The Exorcist
Easily one of the most well-known horror films, ‘The Exorcist‘ follows a young girl Regan who is possessed by a demonic entity after playing with the Ouija Board. Filled with gut-wrenching scenes, jump scares, and an iconic soundtrack, this film should be on your watchlist.
9) Hereditary
This film is directed by Ari Aster, who is slowly becoming a pioneer in the horror genre. ‘Hereditary‘ is unlike any of the horror flicks in recent times as it doesn’t rely on jump scares. Instead, the scare is a slow burn buildup that culminates into something that’s worth exploring.
8) The Conjuring
No Halloween movie night is complete without this 2013 James Wan-directed feature. Reportedly based on the true story of Ed and Lorraine Warren, the story follows a family who moves into a new house where they experience paranormal happenings. The film also won a People’s Choice Award.
7) Scream
Towards the end of the 90s, the horror genre was eating itself. There were unnecessary franchise slasher films released all the time that wasn’t well received. Then came ‘Scream.’ It turned every horror trope into its head and is mostly known for its self-aware humor along with morbid horror.

Every slasher film owes its existence to ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre‘, which came out and shocked the viewers. It follows a deranged family of cannibals which also includes a chainsaw-wielding psychopath named Leatherface, one of the most iconic villains in horror history.

Released in 2002, this horror flick is directed by Gore Verbinski with Naomi Watts and Daveigh Chase in lead roles. Racheal, a young journalist, investigates a mysterious videotape that kills its viewers after a week of watching it. Another John Carpenter film on this list, ‘The Thing‘ is one of the few to amazingly blend sci-fi with horror. Based on a short story, this film is about a group of researchers trapped in the Antarctic who are attacked by an alien that can take the shape of its victims.
