Daisy Edgar-Jones is causing a storm in Hollywood, both literally and figuratively. Known for her roles in ‘Normal People‘ and ‘Where the Crawdads Sing,’ Edgar-Jones is stepping into a whirlwind of action and special effects with her latest role in ‘Twisters.’ The sequel to the 1996 classic ‘Twister‘ and directed by Lee Isaac Chung, the film promises to deliver a thrilling ride through the eyes of storm chasers dealing with nature’s fury.
In ‘Twisters,’ Edgar-Jones plays Kate Cooper, a meteorologist grappling with personal trauma while facing down some of nature’s most powerful forces. The role marks a significant shift for the actress, who is used to more introspective dramas. Here’s what she said about the upcoming film and her role in it.

Daisy Edgar-Jones Talks About Her Experience From Film Sets To Tornado Hunts
Daisy Edgar-Jones revealed that her upcoming film ‘Twisters‘ marks a significant career twist for her. Speaking of the film, she said, “It’s a real story of coming home — home to a place but also home to yourself or the person you might have lost”.
Edgar-Jones said she became so enthralled with storm chasing during the filming of ‘Twisters‘ that she decided to chase a real tornado. After wrapping up production, she teamed up with storm trackers she met on set and pursued a storm cell from Kansas to Oklahoma City.
“I was desperate to see one,” Edgar-Jones confessed over coffee during an interview with Variety. “I was genuinely scared, but also exhilarated,” she said while describing the adrenaline rush of tracking a storm. Although the storm they chased ultimately vanished, Edgar-Jones understood the appeal of storm chasing. “What a rush — all that planning for one moment of madness,” she said.
Edgar-Jones’ portrayal of Kate Cooper in the film will offer audiences a peek into a character who is intelligent and intuitive, similar to Bill Paxton’s character in the original film. The storyline is a mix of action and personal redemption, as Edgar-Jones’ character navigates both tornadoes and emotional turmoil. The film sets itself apart by incorporating modern storm-chasing technology and social media influencers, adding a fresh twist to the classic disaster narrative.

Daisy Edgar-Jones Praises Co-Star Glen Powell’s Dedication
In the film, Glen Powell plays Kate’s love interest, a tornado influencer, adding an exciting dynamic to the film. Edgar-Jones praised Powell’s dedication, noting his extensive research on weather and storm-chasing.
“Glen, genuinely, is one of the most hardworking people I have ever met,” she said. The two actors bonded over their shared approach to acting, which involved diving deeply into their characters.
Filming in Oklahoma presented its challenges, including dealing with real weather. One day, a windstorm destroyed the set, forcing the cast to take shelter. Edgar-Jones recalled a particularly dramatic moment when a real mesocyclone cloud formed behind them during a scene. “We looked like two of the most idiotic storm chasers,” she laughed.
Edgar-Jones found joy in the practical effects used for tornado scenes, describing them as being at a “theme park.” From being flung back by simulated wind to dodging falling chandeliers, the experience was as physically demanding as it was thrilling.
She even had to take running lessons to perfect her stride for the action scenes. “I’m not good at running,” she admitted, joking about her unique running style.
Daisy Edgar-Jones Will Have To Say Goodbye To Her Role In Carole King’s Biopic
While ‘Twisters‘ brings Edgar-Jones into the spotlight, she won’t be starring in the Carole King biopic ‘Beautiful.’ Initially cast as the legendary singer-songwriter, Edgar-Jones exited the project last year due to scheduling conflicts and creative changes.
“I love Carole and I love that story, but it was a year ago that they decided [to no longer pursue it],” she explained. Despite the change, she cherished the experience of meeting Carole King via Zoom, calling it “the coolest thing ever.”
Although she’s not part of the biopic anymore, Edgar-Jones remains open to future opportunities, including a potential ‘Twisters‘ sequel. “I’d have to read a script first and see what’s going on, but definitely,” she said enthusiastically, pondering what new twists could be added to the storm-chasing saga.
‘Twisters‘ hits theaters in the UK on July 17 and the US on July 19.
