    Apart from Cillian Murphy’s lead as Oppenheimer, Matt Damon plays another very important character in the movie. His character was essential for the success of the Manhattan Project. 

    Damon’s character is titled Leslie “Dick” Groves. Groves worked closely with Oppenheimer for the development of the ‘Fat Man’ and ‘Little Boy’. He was a lieutenant general in the United States Army. He was titular in getting things done on the side of the military. 

    Although Oppenheimer and Groves were two very different men, he chose the physicist to lead this top-secret project. Groves was the Temporary Brigadier General of the Manhattan Project. His all-encompassing involvement included the scientific and technical aspects of the bombs. He was also in charge of the process development, construction, production, security, and military intelligence of enemy activities.

    What Happened To Leslie Groves After The War Ended?

    After World War II ended, Leslie Groves became the chief of the newly formed Armed Forces Special Weapons Project (AFSWP). However, after Groves realized that his place in the army will never have the same importance ever, he quit the army.

    After quitting the army, Groves became the vice president at an equipment and electronics firm titled Sperry Rand. He stayed with the company until his death in 1970. Groves died of a heart attack on 13 July 1970. Although he was taken to the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, he could not be saved and died at the age of 73.
