    Will Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ Release In Japan As The Story Is Based On Death Of More Than 200,000 Japanese People?

    Movie buffs all around the world are eagerly waiting for Christopher Nolan’s nuclear bomb to be dropped on July 21. The ‘Oppenheimer clash with Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ has just escalated the excitement among the fans. It is no secret that Christopher Nolan is considered one of the most talented filmmakers in the movie business as he never fails to impress moviegoers with aesthetic shots, gripping plotlines, and charismatic characters.

    Since the fans of the directors are basically planted all over the world, every distributor wants to make sure they get their hands on his creations as soon as possible. But his upcoming war drama ‘Oppenheimer’ starring Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. will reach every theater in the world except for this one country.

Christopher Nolan’s war period drama is based on the creation of the first atomic bomb by scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer.  Since the film is based on the weapon of mass destruction that became the catalyst for the devastation caused in Hiroshima and Nagasaki causing the death of nearly 200,000 Japanese people. It’s not clear that Japanese moviegoers will not be interested in appreciating a film about the very topic that was considered a nightmare.

    Over the years, Christopher Nolan has delivered many cinematic gems to the audience and few of them were well-received globally. Known for intellectually challenging and intricate, yet exhilarating and visually stunning films, Nolan desires to carry on the legacy with ‘Oppenheimer’ as well. The demand for this film maybe have reached the sky all over the world, Japan remains one of the very few countries where the release of this war drama period is still uncertain. As based on a real-life tragedy, the studio is skeptical about the audience’s reaction to the film in Japan.

    Christopher Nolan believe that the story is important and said at ComicCon, “Like it or not, J. Robert Oppenheimer is the most important person who ever lived. He made the world that we live in for better or for worse. His story has to be seen to be believed”. Whether ‘Oppenheimer’ will play in Japan depends on Toho-Towa, the country’s biggest distributor of Hollywood films. The company has yet to screen the movie but is expected to do so soon.

Many users replied to @LycanGTV’s tweet about “Do you think the Oppenheimer movie will bomb in Japan”, with one user saying “Why would it? It’s a Nolan movie”.

    Previously movies showcasing World War II has positively received by the Japanese audience. Hugh Jackman’s ‘The Wolverine’ had a scene where he was seen caught in the middle of a bombing on Nagasaki and Clint Eastwood’s directed feature ‘Letters From Iwo Jima’, both films were well appreciated among Japanese moviegoers.
