Barbie is not alone in Hollywood. There are other women out there to support her. Amidst the conservative backlash that the movie is facing, actress Whoopi Goldberg has come forward in support of the box office hit. It is in an episode of ‘The View’ that was held on July 25 that the Oscar-winning star shared her opinion of the movie ‘Barbie‘.
As one of the most anticipated movies of the year, ‘Barbie’ had a tremendous effect on the public. From the whole of Hollywood to most of the brands are still covered in the pink glow. And it is no wonder that the movie has broken multiple box office records in the country and worldwide. But there is still a quite bit of dislike towards the movie. So here’s why the Grammy winner Whoopi Goldberg lashed at the ‘Barbie’ haters.
Whoopi Goldberg Supports ‘Barbie’
Many commentators and celebrities have come forward to mock the Greta Gerwig movie ‘Barbie’. Some have pointed out the movie to be too feminist. While others have marked the movie to be unfit for younger audiences. “All you need to know about #BarbieTheMovie is that it unironically uses the word ‘patriarchy’ more than 10 times,” Ben Shapiro shared on Twitter. He also posted a video of himself burning Barbie dolls.
There were also other conservatives who shared the fact that the movie did not address either family or faith. “It’s a movie. It’s a movie about a doll. I thought y’all would be happy. She has no genitalia, so there’s no sex involved. Ken has no genitalia” Goldberg pointed out satirically.
The EGOT winner commented on how children and adults see the same movie. “The kids know it’s colorful, and it’s Barbie. They haven’t live through what the adults have lived through, so when they’re seeing this movie, that’s not how they’re looking at it. The kids are looking at it as a Barbie movie,” she explained.
“I want you all to tell your daughters why you’re not taking them to see the Barbie movie. I want you to explain to them what’s wrong with ‘Barbie’,” she added to her remarks.

How Did Greta Gerwig React To The Conservative Criticism?
Greta Gerwig has also shared her remarks on the right-wing criticism that her movie is facing. In an interview with The New York Times, the director shared her viewpoints. “Certainly, there’s a lot of passion. My hope for the movie is that it’s an invitation for everybody to be part of the party and let go of the things that aren’t necessarily serving us as either women or men,” the ‘Lady Bird’ filmmaker commented on the movie’s purpose.
“I hope that in all of that passion, if they see it or engage with it, it can give them some of the relief that it gave other people,” Gerwig said. Under the glam and color of the movie ‘Barbie’, the writer discusses a lot of issues including sexism and capitalism through the screens.
