Camilla Cabello and Shawn Mendes‘ hit song ‘Senorita‘ was the biggest song of 2019, and also probably the biggest song of both the pop stars’ careers. The song, recorded and performed during their relationship has been a significant part of both their careers. But as Cabello puts it, it might not be the best thing for her.
The ex Fifth Harmony member opened up on her desire to staying away from the collaboration with Mendes being her entire identity, along with new revelations on how she doesn’t want to identify as a pop girl.

The pop star, who is set to release her new album C, XOXO, later this month, was asked if she ever gets tired of listening to her hits, ‘Havana‘ and ‘Señorita‘, in a Complex cover story. In response, Cabello talked about how she worries that the song’s popularity could overshadow her own in the music industry.
Cabello said, “I obviously love that they were so massive and successful. But it does get people attached to you in a certain light. I was in a really public relationship and as a woman, you’re like, ‘I don’t want this couple thing to be my new identity.”
The song didn’t just top charts and gain immense popularity, but also went on to become one of the highlights of their relationship, especially because of the music video and all the sultry performances they performed together.
Camilla also talked about how she wants to stay away from the ‘pop girl’ tag in the industry and wants to identify as much more than just that. “I don’t try to cater to what people expect from me. I just follow my own instincts. I gravitate to people who take risks and make fresh choices. I don’t want to be perceived as a pop star,” she said before adding, “That is what I am working towards. I don’t want to be a pop girl. I just want to be me outside of that.”
