Hall & Oates Legal Brawl Explained: Why Is Daryl Hall Suing His Bandmate?

The pop-rock legends, Hall & Oates, are stirring up a backstage drama as Daryl Hall has filed a confidential lawsuit against John Oates. Hall is pointing fingers at his former sidekick, 75-year-old Oates, and the fans are worried that it might be a showdown between Hall and Oates.

The reason behind the move by the 77-year-old co-founder of the duo is so secretive that even the courtroom peeps don’t know it. Hall has also slapped a restraining order on Oates. The court has issued a temporary restraining order, starting the music on November 30, as reported by Variety.

The hearing of the lawsuit unfolded in Nashville’s chancery court, while the lawsuit was filed under the cryptic label of a “contract/debt” dispute. The court documents are sealed tight, making it impossible for anyone to access them, according to journalists from Philadelphia Magazine who tried to get a sneak peek into the documents.

In a revelation on Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast, Harry said that Oates is not his “creative partner“. “He’s my business partner. He’s not my creative partner,” Hall said.
John and I are brothers, but we are not creative brothers. We are business partners. We made records called Hall & Oates together, but we’ve always been very separate, and that’s a really important thing for me,” Hall added.

Hall & Oats Show Rolls On

Despite the legal brawl, the Hall & Oates show rolls on. The duo’s legacy dates back to as back as 1972. Although they have created music separately over the years, they never officially declared their split as a band.

Representatives for the duo have also beefed up security so as to avoid the media and the questions they may be slapped with. The fans are, meanwhile, left with no other option than to sit and wait to find out what’s brewing and what it may entail for their favorite band’s future.
