The year has been great for the music industry. The complete lift of lockdowns allowed the artists to go on tours promoting their music. This boosted the record and streaming sales of the artists’ music. In 2022, we got a new Taylor Swift album ‘Midnights’ after a slew of the recordings; Lady Gaga erected theatrical shows during her ‘Chromatica Ball’ tour, and Kendrick Lamar released his bare-all Hip Hop album ‘Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers’.

But, they extended their prowess by contributing to cinema. Lady Gaga gave us a hopeful ballad with her vocally charged theme song ‘Hold My Hand’ for Top Gun: Maverick’. Rihanna made her comeback after six years of hiatus with ‘Black Panther: WakandaForever’. Like them, many artists American and international have made it to the Oscars 2023 nominations.

An Indian composer M.M. Keeravaani is nominated for the entertaining dance number ‘Naatu Naatu’ in the S.S. Rajamouli’s magnum opus ‘RRR’. Other artists include Taylor Swift, who made rounds at the film festivals with her short film ‘All Too Well’. She is nominated for the folk ballad ‘Carolina’ in Daisy Edgar-Jones starrer ‘Where The Crawdads Sing’.

It has become ceremonial for the Oscars to snub artists from certain categories which they deserved. The Weeknd was a surprising nomination who had a song in the sequel of Cameron’s 2009’s blockbuster ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’. He gave vocals to ‘Nothing Is Lost(You Give Me Strength)’. It is too early for the listeners to register it on the charts.

Artists like Kendrick Lamar,Taylor Swift, and Selena Gomez did not receive nominations in the ‘Best Live Action Short Film’ category and ‘Best Documentary Feature’, respectively. K-Dot had ‘We Cry Now’ starring Taylour Paige visuals released for a limited number of audiences in June 2022.

The Oscars 2023 snubbed the masterpiece. They snubbed Swift’s ‘All Too Well’. Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas were also not nominated this year for ‘Nobody Like U’ from ‘Turning Red’.
