Anna Kendrick Opens Up About Her Directional Debut Film ‘Woman Of The Hour’

With the release date nearing, Anna Kendrick feels equally excited and nervous about the film Woman Of The Hour. The film is based on the life of Rodney Alcala, a serial killer, who appeared on ‘The Dating Game’ in 1978 amid a murder spree.

Not only does Kendrick star in the crime thriller but also makes her directional debut. The ‘Pitch Perfect’ actor opened up about her experience as a new director and the personal doubts she overcame to feel up to the job.

Anna Kendrick shared her directional debut experience on the morning television news, Today. Host Hoda Kotb appreciated Kendrick’s achievement, deeming it “a big moment in your career.” Agreeing with Kotb, Kendrick dived into the challenges and nervous jitters she faced as a first-time director. She said, “I’m nervous, yeah, it’s a big moment and a scary moment.”

She continued, “It was really scary to take that step, and generally speaking, I don’t have the feeling, like, ‘I should be in charge of stuff.’ So it felt really weird to pitch myself to direct the movie.”

Kendrick explained her experience on set as a director, “It was like a very short timeline, like six weeks later I was in Canada prepping the movie. It was very overwhelming but it was the most rewarding experience of my career.”

Anna Kendrick further revealed that her journey was not without challenges. There were moments when she needed help, and he co-starshad her back.

She told Hoda, “I feel very lucky and grateful that the ‘Pitch Perfect’ girls are really like family in the truest sense of the word. Like we didn’t choose each other but we are connected for life.”

She continued, “The day before we actually started filming…my confidence was so low and I called Britney and I was expecting a sugary sweet pep talk cause that’s kind of girl she is. And she just said, ‘Anna you’re gonna go on set and you’re going to know what to do.'”

Kendrick was taken aback, “Why are you talking to me like me? That is so rude. But it is also exactly what I needed to hear. So, she kinda gave me a taste of my own medicine which was good.”

Anna revealed the film is more about the manifold struggles women face as moving in society and their survival techniques.

‘Woman Of The Hour’ premiered at the Toronto International Festival last year and will be released on Netflix on October 18, 2024.
