Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton’s romance is the hot topic at the moment as ‘Bridgerton’ Season 3 is all set to premiere on 16 May. Jess Brownell has taken over season 3 and fans are super anticipated.
Before the release of season 3, fans have been looking out for all the sneak peeks Netflix has been dropping online. Now author Julia Quinn herself has given us an interesting story about Colin and Penelope. Here’s what Julia Quinn revealed about a modern-day relationship between the season 3 leads.
How Would Penelope And Colin Fare In A Modern-Day Relationship?
The lead couple of ‘Bridgerton season 3’ have a very interesting trope of friends to lovers. Just as Penelope has given up hope of her one-sided love towards Colin, the Bridgerton brother starts to feel something more towards her. Their love story unfolds in season 3 of ‘Bridgerton’.
Ahead of that, Julia Quinn revealed how the lead couple would have tackled modern-day dating in an interview with SheKnows. “I think they would be on the apps. But I mean, I don’t know how much they would like it,” Quinn said. “I think they would be the people who do a lot of messaging before they actually meet.”
Quinn continued, “Because they’re both very involved with the written world so they would try to do some weeding out that way.” Well, that would be very true since both of them exchanged a lot of letters throughout the series. Quinn also theorized that a dating non-negotiable for Penelope would be respect and Colin would be kindness.

Julia Quinn Is Super Excited About Bridgerton Season 3
Just like the viewers, Julia Quinn is equally excited for the third season. However, she also theorized a very interesting modern-day take on Colin and Penelope. “The first thing that came to mind was like manatees,” Quinn says in her interview. “So Colin, and Penelope and Regency England would never have actually seen a manatee, but like I think if Penelope were living like in 2024 she would be giving her charity to save the manatees.”
Julia Quinn continued to say about Colin, “I actually have a soundtrack for every book and one of the songs on this particular soundtrack was a Phish song and I was like, ‘I think Colin would be a big Phish fan.’ He’d be a total deadhead, actually.” Keeping the modern-day dating knick-knacks aside, Quinn is excited for viewers to witness the different yet familiar vibe of the lead couple.
“It’s a big change to be familiar,” she adds. “[Viewers will] be surprised by the way it makes them feel,” she said. “I’m looking forward to seeing how people react to that sort of different setup.”
