‘Game Of Thrones’ Actor’s 2020 Movie ‘The Silencing’ Suddenly Ranks Up On Netflix’s Global Top 10. Here’s Why

It rarely happens that a movie rises to fame much after its release. But it has happened with the 2020 thriller film, ‘The Silencing‘ starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau who played the character Jamie Lannister on ‘Game of Thrones‘.

The movie has hit Netflix’s Global Top 10 chart. Directed by Robin Pront, its plot revolves around the life of a father-turned-hunter and his journey to find his daughter’s kidnapper. When it was first released in 2020, the movie gained mixed reviews and ended up as a not-so-popular film.

The Silencing‘, however, has now made it to the sixth position on the charts with 3.7 million views on Netflix. The lead character of the movie’s story played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau adds to the appeal of the film.

Even when the movie had a limited release and got mixed reviews after its release in 2020, it has a whopping 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Nobody had however expected the movie to rise suddenly on Netflix.

The resurgence is rather odd, leaving many wondering what led to this sudden rise. Notably, the rise of the movie comes alongside another Netflix thriller, ‘The Killer‘ which has consistently held a spot on the Top 10 chart in recent weeks.

It is speculated that the possible reason for its sudden uprise is the parallel rise of the movie ‘The Killer‘, which has similar thriller elements. Both movies focus on a character who is on a mission to find someone who has wronged them.

Naturally, viewers who like ‘The Killer‘ are likely to turn to ‘The Silencing‘. The Netflix algorithm also suggests similar movies to its viewers. It is likely that the streaming platform spotted the thematic similarities and pushed the 2020 movie into viewers’ recommendations.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau’s popularity as Jamie Lannister in ‘Game of Thrones‘ can also be factored in as a contributing aspect to the viewers’ interest. Nevertheless, it’s just a fluke that the movie became one of the rare ones that rose to fame much after its release.
