Who Is In The Sparrow Academy And What Are Their Powers? Are They Stronger Than The Umbrella Academy?

Season 3 of ‘The Umbrella Academy‘ brought with it a massive surprise – The Sparrow Academy, which had filled everyone up with a sense of suspense, excitement, and restlessness.

Sparrow Academy is an Academy of seven children born on the same day and adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves following a change in the timeline caused by their counterparts, the Umbrella Academy. Considered to be “almost identical to the Umbrella Academy”, let us take a look at what their powers are and how they compete with those of Umbrella Academy siblings.

Played by Justin Cornwall, Marcus, or Number One for the Sparrows has a similar set of powers to Luther, though before the supernatural transformation that turned him from the neck down into a human/ ape hybrid.

Along with possessing immense strength, Marcus has enhanced resilience, as shown in the series when he can withstand Luther’s punches with little pain.

2. Number Two/ Ben – Can Summon Tentacles

Although there seemed to be quite a few variations in their personality, Ben from The Sparrow Academy and Ben from The Umbrella Academy share the same powers.

Played by Justin Min, Ben has the power to push out massive tentacles from another dimension from his torso.

Number Three in The Sparrow, portrayed by Britne Oldford, has the power to call forth and make crows from within her own body, which she can manipulate and direct in different ways. Overcoming her lack of sight, she can see through these crows and utilize them to attack her adversaries.

These crows are far more powerful than ordinary ones, easily pecking through wooden doors.

4. Number Four/ Alphonso – Empathetic Masochism

Alphonso (Jake Epstein) can inflict any injuries he sustains upon his opponent, acting as a human voodoo doll. On the other hand, this power appears to require conscious effort and appropriate stamina to work, as Alphonso was defeated upon getting tired.

Alphonso also has extra resistance to damage, allowing him to do more harm to his enemies than himself, though there appear to be limits to his defenses, as his chin even chipped off from Diego’s kick in one of the episodes.

5. Number Five/Sloane – Gravity Control

Sloane, played by Genesis Rodriguez, possesses the ability to control her own and other people’s gravitational pull, enabling herself and others to fly.

She can also get rid of her opponent’s gravity, making them fall suddenly to the ground.

Jayme or Number Six, portrayed by Cazzie David, has the ability to spit a green venom that causes her targets to have hallucinations upon reaching their face.

As Netflix officially describes it, the effects of the venom “sends her targets into their heads and out of the fight“.

Chris or Number Seven is a floating cube and has energy-based powers including paralyzing rays and telekinesis. He can also reshape his cube body into some other shapes for specific purposes.

Even though he is mute, he can still make sounds that his siblings can perceive, and he can somewhat express himself through the light he creates, which seems to be connected to his emotional state.

Who Is More Powerful – The Umbrella Academy Or The Sparrow Academy?

Now, on to the long-awaited question – who is more powerful? While we have seen the abilities of both groups, it is quite hard to answer this question with a simple yes or no.

If pitted against each other separately for a 1v1 fight, it is quite clear that the majority of The Sparrow Academy would end up victorious. Given his strength, Marcus Hargreeves looks like he could easily defeat Luther in a battle. Fei, as well, has the ability to summon crows to attack humans, which seems lethal and hazardous.

This is not to say that The Umbrella Academy wouldn’t win the battle as a team. Although The Sparrows have discipline, power, and an energy-inducing cube, The Umbrella Academy has Viktor and Number Five (power and brains). Viktor’s intense power and Number Five’s intellect, along with the other members’ efforts of course, would surely lead The Umbrella Academy to victory. Plus, given the way that season 3 ended, this point was proved by seeing how everyone except Ben and Slaone died from The Sparrow Academy, and everyone from The Umbrella Academy lived.
