It seems that companies are holding high-profile celebrities accountable for their action and words after what happened with Kanye West. Brands like Adidas, Vogue, and JP Morgan Chase cut ties with him.

Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Nike has halted their relationship with basketball player Kyrie Irving as they called it repeated failure to “unequivocally say he has no antisemitic beliefs.” Brooklyn Nets also suspended him for five matches for the same.

At Nike, we believe there is no place for hate speech and we condemn any form of antisemitism,” the Oregon-based company said. “To that end, we’ve made the decision to suspend our relationship with Kyrie Irving effective immediately and will no longer launch the Kyrie 8.”

Since 2014, Irving has had a signature line with the sports apparel company. He was first signed in 2011. “We are deeply saddened and disappointed by the situation and its impact on everyone,” Nike said.

After Nike cut ties with him, Irving took to social media to issue an apology. “To All Jewish families and Communities that are hurt and affected from my post, I am deeply sorry to have caused you pain, and I apologize,” he wrote.

He continued, “I initially reacted out of emotion to being unjustly labeled Anti-Semitic, instead of focusing on the healing process of my Jewish Brothers and Sisters that were hurt from the hateful remarks made in the Documentary.”

The company’s decision came a day after the Nets handed down their suspension after Irving posted a link to the documentary ‘Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America’, a film that has antisemitic material.

Irving defended his right to post what he wants and refused to give a direct answer when asked if he has antisemitic beliefs.
