During the seven weeks that the defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard took place in Fairfax County, Virginia, all social media feeds were kept, prisoner.
Depp, who had been identified by a U.K. judge to have assaulted Heard on 12 occasions, accused three counts of defamation by Heard related to an op-ed she published in 2018 in The Washington Post, in which she called herself a “public figure representing domestic abuse” and spoke out against “sexual violence.”
Declassified Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard Court Documents Reveal New Claims
More than 6,000 pages of previously sealed court records related to the Depp v. Heard trial were made public over the course of the weekend.
The documents, which were acquired by The Daily Beast, provide fresh light on the case that has been seen around the world. They provide new insights into the legal strategy employed by either side as well as the mountains of material that were not presented in court.
Heard’s legal team submitted to the judge, in unsealed pretrial court filings, that evidence of a variety of “irrelevant personal matters” should be removed from the defamation trial, while asserting the following:
“Mr. Depp inappropriately seeks to introduce evidence of the following Irrelevant Personal Matters: (1) nude pictures of Amber Heard; (2) Amber Heard’s sister Whitney’s reality show video; (3) Whitney and Amber’s past romantic relationships; (4) Amber’s brief stint as an exotic dancer years before she met Mr. Depp and Mr. Depp attempting to frivolously and maliciously suggest or imply that Ms. Heard was at one time an escort.”

According to NBC News’ preview of the 30-minute video, “The Depp vs Heard defamation trial evoked two distinct reactions — those who couldn’t get enough and those who received more than they wanted.”
