Equally at home with comedy and action roles, he returns to ‘Fast X’ as the master thief Jakob Toretto. He is now Dominic’s ally, helping him save his son from Dante, played by Jason Momoa.

But ‘Fast & Furious’ isn’t the only summer blockbuster he’s starring in. Thanks to his friendship with Margot Robbie, John Cena has sneaked himself into Greta Gerwig’s live-action telling of the ‘Barbie’ story. He appeared on the ‘Today Show’ to talk about the experience of filming ‘Fast X’ and how he got to be in ‘Barbie.’

John Cena’s ‘Barbie’ Cameo Is A ‘Happy Accident’ 

While filming ‘Fast X,’ John Cena ran into Margot Robbie. It turns out she was filming ‘Barbie’ nearby. Having formed a great rapport working on James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad,’ he “kind of” pitched himself for the role. Phone calls were made, deals were struck, and now John Cena has a cameo as a merman in the movie. He’s in good company with Dua Lipa, who plays the mermaid.

John Cena told the hosts of Today Show about the experience of filming ‘Fast X’ and ‘Barbie’: “It was a happy accident and I think that Barbie and Fast X share a lot of parallels. The cast list is amazing, the Barbie cast list is amazing, the Fast X cast list is amazing. So, with a lot of opportunity, it was a chance for maybe to [say], ‘Hey, would you guys be willing to have me if I could do something?’”

However, there are no further details about John Cena’s merman role in ‘Barbie‘ yet.

John Cena Returns To The ‘Fast & Furious‘ Franchise As Jakob Toretto

John Cena, who plays Jakob Toretto, is one of many characters joining ‘Fast X.’ A skilled thief and assassin who first appeared in ‘F9,’ he’s revealed to be Dom’s (Vin Diesel) and Mia Toretto’s (Jordana Brewster) half-brother. In ‘Fast X,’ he comes back to save Dom’s son from Dante (Jason Mamoa).

Directed by Louis Leterrier, ‘Fast X’ sees Dominic Toretto and his family face off against Dante, the son of drug lord Hernan Reyes. With revenge on his mind, he goes after Dom and everyone he cares about. ‘Fast X’ will be released on May 19, 2023, in the USA.
