    Set to Beach Boys’ breezy track ‘Fun Fun Fun,’ viewers are given a fantastic view of the pretty plastic world the Barbies and Kens inhabit. Everybody is somebody except Ken. But if all’s well, why does Margot Robbie’s Barbie leave her picture-perfect world behind? Life outside Barbie Land may not be what she wishes it to be.

    While the previously released brief teaser gave us a peak, this one provides more than just a taste of the pastel pink world-building Greta Gerwig has achieved. From the looks of the trailer, Greta is on to something. The scene at the beach tells of her understanding of the whimsical nature of the project. Besides the new teaser trailer, social media is overwhelmed by the wave of the movie’s official posters.

    Through song and dance, we meet various avatars of Barbie, from scientists to political leaders. And then there are Kens, always the same. On the surface, Margot Robbie’s Barbie seems to have everything. But as we see her leaving town, her world literally turns upside down. Is it an epiphany or an existential crisis? Only time will tell.

    Barbie‘ is Greta Gerwig’s directorial follow-up to her 2019 film Little Women.’ She co-wrote it with her husband and filmmaker, Noah Baumbach. Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are the leading pair in a world run amock with Barbies and Kens. The cast of the film is an embarrassment of riches. Issa Rae, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Ana Cruz Kayne, Ritu Arya, Nicola Coughlan, Dua Lipa, Kate McKinnon, Hari Nef, and Sharon Rooney play different versions of Barbie.

    Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, and Scott Evans play different versions of Ken. Michael Cera, Emerald Fennell, Jamie Demetriou, and Connor Swindells round up the talented ensemble cast. Will Ferrell plays the CEO of the toy company, and Helen Mirren is the narrative voice of Barbie’s story. The film has a theatrical release date of July 21, 2023.
