Irish actor Ciarán Hinds played Mance Rayder, the king beyond the wall on the Emmy-winning fantasy series ‘Game Of Thrones.’ In conversation with The Independent, he admitted his discomfort about the sex scenes on the show used as a storytelling device. He also discussed his feelings on the rise of intimacy coordinators on sets.
“I was rather put off by the amount of sexuality that was going on in it, because it was taking away from the actual political storytelling. But that’s business, I guess, from their perspective,” said the actor while reluctantly agreeing with the show’s decision.

How Did Other ‘Game Of Thrones’ Stars React To Sex Scenes On The Show?
George R.R. Martin’s series of fantasy novels feature many sex scenes, which were also transferred to the HBO adaptation. Many cast members have spoken about the surprises and the discomforts of filming them in the most strange circumstances. Kit Harrington (Jon Snow) said it felt “unnatural and strange” having to kiss Emilia Clarke on the show.
Maisie Williams, who played Arya Stark on the show, thought her intimate scene was a prank. While the showrunner D.B. Weiss and David Benioff tried to make the filming comfortable, they only made it worse. Emilia Clarke also spoke about being uncomfortable filming intimate scenes with Jason Mamoa.
