Directed by Joseph Kosinski, ‘Top Gun: Maverick‘ follows the 1986 film, ‘Top Gun‘, which was directed by Tony Scott and grossed $357 million worldwide against a reported budget of $15 million. No one was expecting Tom Cruise to make such a phenomenal action comeback after 36 years of the first movie.
What might have also been beyond Cruise’s imagination is the magnitude of the response the movie has received and continues to receive even after 15 weeks of its release. “It’s without a doubt, that ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is a true cultural touchstone embodying the power of the cinematic experience,” Brian Robbins, president, and CEO of Paramount Pictures, commented, witnessing the heavy pourings of love for the action movie. Here’s how much the movie has earned till now, and the box-office records it has broken.

‘Top Gun’ Sequel Has Crossed $700 million In North America
‘Top Gun: Maverick‘ is now the sixth movie in cinema history to surpass $700 million at the US box office, surpassing MCU’s ‘Black Panther‘. Over the Labor day weekend in the U.S. the movie once again grossed huge sums of money, collecting $7.9 million between Friday and Monday and adding the ticket sales to $701 million. It is currently the fifth highest-grossing movie of all time. On a global scale, the movie has made over 1.42 billion. This magnanimous sum made the Cruise-led movie the biggest movie of the year, the biggest movie in the history of Paramount Pictures, the biggest movie of Cruise’s career, and the biggest film since December’s ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home‘. The movie’s contender, the T’Challa superhero movie, ‘Black Panther‘, could only amass $674 million in the USA and $1.347 billion worldwide.
The action-thriller movie is still behind ‘Avatar‘ and currently sits in the fifth spot. What is most surprising is that, unlike other movies which get most of their revenues on the opening days, ‘Top Gun: Maverick‘ has still remained a powerful box-office magnet even after its re-release in the theatres.
