Elon Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion after a long and messy legal battle. What followed has been nothing short of a movie. Musk’s chaotic tenure saw mass layoffs, mass resignations, unbanning of controversial figures as well as the introduction of new policies.
Now, the South African billionaire might be planning to step down as the company’s chief. He recently conducted a poll asking Twitter users if he should step aside as the owner. Around half of the voters voted in favor of this decision. Let’s take a closer look at this incident.

Elon Musk Might Step Down As Twitter Chief
Musk has been struggling to run Twitter as advertisers have been distancing themselves from the platform lately. Apart from this, several celebs have also left Twitter ever since he took over.
On December 18, the SpaceX founder conducted a poll on Twitter asking, “Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll.” More than 57.6 percent of users favored a, Yes and around 42.4 percent clicked on No.

The poll received around 17 million votes. Musk responded with “interesting” after several users stated that the poll was skewed by votes from fake accounts.
A user suggested that “Blue subscribers should be the only ones that can vote in policy related polls”. The billionaire responded by tweeting, “Good point. Twitter will make that change.”

Twitter Has Been Struggling Lately
Within just two months of the acquisition, Musk has made several drastic changes to Twitter that have received mixed reactions from everyone. He fired nearly half of the workforce.
In protest, a mass resignation followed which forced the company to shut down its office temporarily. Twitter also stopped its mechanism to stop misinformation around COVID-19.
Musk also fanned the fire by unbanned several controversial figures like Donald Trump, Kanye West, and Andrew Tate among others. These moves have scared the advertisers who have distanced themselves from the micro-blogging site. In the past, Musk has said that he won’t be heading it for too long and will pass the baton to someone else.
