“It Was A No-Brainer”: Mila Kunis On Not Giving Standing Ovation To Will Smith
The Oscars 2022 did not go well for Will Smith. After the slapgate episode, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences banned him from attending the event. Many from the industry criticized Will Smith for the incident. Latest to the band of critics, Mila Kunis, has also expressed her discontent over the event. The ‘Friends With Benefits’ actress attended the event with her husband Ashton Kutcher. Post the slap, when Will received the award, many people gave a standing ovation to the actor, but Mila was “shocked” seeing that.
In an interview, Kunis gave her reaction and she was angrier at the attendees than Will Smith. She said, “The idea of leading by example only makes sense when you actually have someone to lead. We have our tiny little tribe here at home, and never once do I want to tell them to do something if I’m not willing to do it myself.”
She explained what amazed her about the standing ovation: “Not standing up, to me, was a no-brainer, but what was shocking to me was how many people did stand up. I thought, ‘Wow, what a time we’re living in that rather than do what’s right, people focus on doing what looks good.’ It’s insane to me.”
