The official trailer of the much-awaited prequel series ‘House Of the Dragon’ is finally out now. Fans are going into a frenzy with all the knights, sword fights, kids wanting to be king, and plenty of dragon action. The series, extracted from George R.R. Martin’s ‘Fire & Blood’ book, takes place around 200 years before the original series and follows House Targaryen.
The brand new trailer has build the hype and fans are expecting quite a lot from the series. Amid this, George R. R. Martin, the author who penned the story, opened up about what can be expected from the series. His statements regarding the upcoming masterpiece were quite impressive and unique.
‘House of The Dragon’ Through The Eyes Of George R. R. Martin
‘House of the Dragon‘ chronicles the rise and the downfall of the Targaryens, who are the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria. The 10-episode series will be led by Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, and Emma D’Arcy. It will also include Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, Milly Alcock, Emily Carey, Graham McTavish, Wil Johnson, John Macmillan, Savannah Steyn, and Theo Nate.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, George Martin seemed pretty pumped up about the series after viewing nine of the ten episodes of the show’s first season.
He said, “It’s powerful, it’s visceral, it’s dark, it’s like a Shakespearean tragedy. [The characters] are all flawed. They’re all human. They do good things. They do bad things. They’re driven by lust for power, jealousy, old wounds – just like human beings. Just like I wrote them.”
Matt Smith Opens Up About His Character, Prince Daemon Targaryen
The cast of the prequel series includes some familiar faces, one being Matt Smith who plays Prince Daemon Targaryen. He is the son of the King and the heir to the thrown. He has also dropped some details about his character.
Smith said, “There’s a sort of strange, sensitive nature to Daemon and quite a genuine loyalty to him and humanistic qualities that you can peel away and see.”
That king, King Viserys Targaryen is played by Paddy Considine (Hot Fuzz). “He is a good man but a bad king in that he’s trying to please everybody,” Considine told The Hollywood Reporter about his character in the series.
‘House of the Dragon’ will premiere on 21 August On HBO Max.
