Casting rumors turn up, and casting rumors get shot down—just another day at the DCU offices. As if the current ‘Shazam!‘ fiasco wasn’t enough, James Gunn is also dealing with confounded news of Superman casting making the rounds. He is reportedly making a private casting list as he continues his search for the next son of Krypton.
The rumor mill quickly threw actor Logan Lerman’s name in the hat. Gunn confirmed on Twitter that this wasn’t true. Previously, ‘Euphoria‘ actor Jacob Elordi was said to be the frontrunner for Superman. As always, he quickly denied another false report of DCU casting. We give you a breakdown of what went down.
James Gunn Squashes Rumours Of Logan Lerman’s Superman Casting
James Gunn hasn’t tapped Logan Lerman to play Superman. The DCU chief took to social media to respond to a fan’s hypothetical, saying no such agreement has been made between the actor and the studio. He further made it clear he isn’t aware of who the actor is, also making clear it’s not meant as a slight to him.
James Gunn tweeted, “Guys, this isn’t a dig at the actor. I don’t know lots of actors’ names. Now that you tell me who he is, I recognize him from stuff and think he’s talented. But I’ve never met him, and he’s never been part of a conversation about playing Superman.”

All About James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ Movie
While DCU’s new slate is full of exciting projects, Superman is its crowning jewel. James Gunn has taken a hands-on interest, as he’ll be writing and directing ‘Superman: Legacy.’ This take on the myth of Kryptonian hero will not star Henry Cavill, who’s previously adorned the cape for DCU.
James Gunn’s ‘Superman: Legacy‘ will move away from the idea of an origin story, “centering around Superman’s heritage — how both his aristocratic Kryptonian parents and his Kansas farmer parents inform who he is and the choices he makes.” According to the DC studio chief, the story will feature a younger Superman, calling for an actor in his 30s to take the role. ‘Superman: Legacy‘ has a theatrical release date of July 11, 2025.
