It’s the end of the era! The journey of Henry Cavill as Superman has come to an end. Just recently James Gunn took over the DC franchise along with Peter Safran and already received a lot of hate from superman fans. Gunn and Safran have previously worked together with DC and MCU in projects like ‘Aquaman’, ‘Guardians of the Galaxies: Vol 3’, ‘The Suicide Squad’, and ‘Peacemaker’.
James Gunn and Peter Safran made a joint statement saying, “Our commitment to Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Harley Quinn, and the rest of the DC stable of characters is only equaled by our commitment to the wonder of human possibility these characters represent.” The DC studio was previously managed by Walter Hamada.

Why Did James Gunn Fire Henry Cavill?
The new boss of DC, James Gunn became the victim of public hate because of the decision to let Henry Cavill go. The fans were really excited to see Henry Cavill back as Superman in a cameo role in ‘Black Adam’. The cameo role confirmed the future of ‘The Witcher star continuing the Superman legacy. But just months after the exciting comeback, James Gunn announced that Cavill won’t return for the role.
James Gunn announced the new DC project ‘Superman: Legacy’ which will serve as the all-new franchise of Superman. With the new franchise, Gunn also wants a young actor to play the role of Superman instead of the 39-year-old Cavill. This led to rumors that Gunn fired him which enraged the fans. However, Gunn confirmed that Cavill was not fired from the job but simply not included in the new project. He further clarified that “Henry was never cast. For me, it’s about, who do I want to cast as Superman, and who do the filmmakers we have want to cast. And for me, for this story, it isn’t Henry.”

Henry Cavill’s Contribution To DCU
The British actor had quite an interesting journey with the DCU as Superman. Henry Cavill reprised the role of Superman in the movie ‘Man of Steel’. After the huge success of ‘Man of Steel‘, Cavill returned as Superman in 2016, ‘Batman Vs Superman’, and in 2017 ‘Justice League’. He also appeared in Jack Synder’s ‘Justice League‘ in 2021. His portrayal of Superman revived a lot of mixed responses but the fans loved him.
In 2022, Henry Cavill surprised his fans in a cameo role in the 2022 ‘Black Adam’ which starred Dwayne Johson. But unfortunately, James Gunn decided to go ahead with a young Clark Kent for the new Superman franchise, dropping Cavill off the project. But it seems like he has not given up playing superhero and has joined hands with Marvel Cinematic Universe.
