Nick Fury has been a consistent presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since he made his first cameo in the post-credits sequence of the film Iron Man, which was released in 2008.
In the time that has passed since he assembled the Avengers and took temporary command of the intelligence organization, he has solidified his position as a pivotal player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Despite this, it seems that Marvel already has a replacement planned for him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel Producer Confirms Nick Fury’s Replacement
The character of Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, was one of the first in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be established, having initially appeared in Iron Man. He has since featured in various additional projects. While Fury will next be seen in Disney+’s Secret Invasion, it appears that Val, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, has mastered the art of putting together her own crew.
It was during Wyatt Russell’s harrowing international incident in ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ that she first met the character. But Val is certain of his involvement in whatever she’s piecing together right now.
According to one Marvel producer, “The Countess Valentina Allegra de Fontaine is a character that has a rich publication history… and to some degree, figuring out who can fill those shoes, which in our mind is in a way taking the reins from Nick Fury, was tough. But when we thought of Julia Louis-Dreyfus, there was fun energy to her that immediately you realize this person has a weight and gravity, but they’re not the same as Nick Fury. It’s a completely different energy.”
“Marvel Studios intends for Val to be a new leader… in the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” according to the producer. “There’s a snark to the character that I think sets her apart from what’s come before. And yet you still feel like she commands the room. So if you’re talking about a new leader, to some degree, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we were very lucky to find Julia Louis-Dreyfus.”
What Does The Future Hold For Val’s Leadership?
So, what is Val really doing? Well, the most obvious answer would be the Thunderbolts project, which was just announced. Even though we don’t know much about the project yet, it could be a lot like ‘The Suicide Squad’. John Walker, Yelena Belova, Zemo, and others could form their own group of happy superheroes.
But what does all of this have to do with Nick Fury and what he does in the MCU? Samuel L. Jackson’s character has been strangely absent from recent events, which has even thrown the actor himself for a loop.
