Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as the senior members of the Royal family, people have wanted to know about their life outside the realm of royalty. The couple had to relocate and start everything from scratch since they were no longer associated with royal money or its other fancy privileges.
One of the many tasks that the two were worried about was their new home. In her recent interview with The Cut, the Duchess shares how they chose their current Los Angeles house, and what all they had to go through before finally settling on one.
Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Were Spied At In Their First Home
The U.K. media had only gotten more reasons to poke into where the Prince and Duchess headed off. The two also didn’t have the royal security they had before. Using her late mother Diana’s estate money, Harry relocated his family of three. He also received some financial assistance from Prince Charles. They first shifted to a coastal home, of which the location was leaked by the media. The couple could feel the eyes of the men spying on them from the waters. A horrifying experience to not feel safe in your own house.
Soon after, Meghan had to turn to ask for help from Tyler Perry, who had previously reached out to the royal couple and said that he was one call away if they needed any support or advice. Although she had never met him, Meghan reveals that unburdening all her problems to him felt very light, and what she didn’t see coming was Perry offering one of his homes in Beverly Hills. The security at Perry’s Los Angeles house was the biggest relief for the couple since they wanted to keep their son Archie as safe as possible. In August 2020, the couple bought the $14 million Montecito, Santa Barbara County property.
The Two Palm Trees That Made Them Choose Their Montecito Residence
While finding houses, Meghan shares that one of the properties repeatedly popped up. They resisted touring it. Meghan tells The Cut, “We didn’t have jobs, so we just were not going to come and see this house. It wasn’t possible. It’s like when I was younger and you’re window shopping — it’s like, I don’t want to go and look at all the things that I can’t afford. That doesn’t feel good.”
However, they eventually visited it. The Duchess shares what struck his husband, Prince Harry, the most when they stepped in. “One of the first things my husband saw when we walked around the house was those two palm trees. See how they’re connected at the bottom? He goes, ‘My love, it’s us.’ And now every day when Archie goes by us, he says, ‘Hi Momma. Hi Papa.’” It was quite a beautiful analogy that Prince Harry had made with the palm trees and their own love and relationship. It becomes all the more beautiful that their son greets the trees as mom and dad. Meghan also described her new home as “Joy. And calm. It’s healing. You feel free.”
