‘The Rings Of Power’: When Did The Wizards Reach The Middle-Earth?

‘Lord of the Rings’ is a fantasy masterpiece helmed by J.R.R Tolkien which was first released as a series of novels and later adapted into a movie franchise. Extending this fantasy world even further, Prime Video is launching The Rings of Power’, set in the Second Age of Middle Earth. Who Are The Wizards In ‘The Rings Of Power’?

    The Wizards

In appearance, the Wizards look like elderly men even though they age very slowly. However, their aged appearance should not be misunderstood as a weakness as they possess extraordinary physical strength and highly intelligent minds. Each of them carries a staff which is associated with a color and rank within their Order.

The Wizards could be harmed and killed but their death is temporary as they just simply return to the Timeless Hall after dying where the Valar would send them back to Middle-Earth until their task was complete. After the completion of their task, they return to Valinor. As their name suggests, the Wizards possessed magical powers which allowed them to cast illusions, shoot firebolts, summon lightning and heal grievous wounds. These exceptional abilities meant that the Wizards are more powerful than even the Elves

When Did The Wizards Come To Middle-Earth?

    The Wizards

The Wizards appeared on Middle-Earth in the year 1000 of the Third Age to provide assistance and support to the Free people against the Dark Lord Sauron. They were sent by Valar as guides of great deeds and to set in motion events that would lead to the destruction of Sauron. Five of them came to the Middle-Earth out of which two went to the East and did not appear in the stories of the Middle-Earth and the remaining three were called Saruman, Gandalf, and Radagast. The Middle-Earth’s inhabitants were unaware of the presence of the Wizards among them as they refrained from meddling in other people’s affairs and had a gentle nature.

Out of the three Wizards on Middle-Earth, Saruman was the most powerful and he even became the head of the White Council but when he found out about the rings of power, he became corrupted by the desire for them and became ensnared in Sauron’s power. It was Gandalf who cast down Saruman and led the Free People to victory. Radagast had little part in ‘Lord of the Rings’ and it is unknown when he left Middle-Earth.
